Protect Joliet’s Water

Mayor O’Dekirk is recklessly rushing through a decision that will TRIPLE your water bill over the next three years. I’ve had hundreds of conversations with families across Joliet that leave them shocked about the huge price hikes on the horizon, when we already pay too much for poor quality drinking water.

The mayor is rushing through this vote to patch over decades of inaction by the Joliet City Council that will leave our families without water by 2030. Thanks to reporting by The Herald News, we now know the mayor hasn’t even fully vetted all the options on the table.

Once again, our mayor and his friends want us to pay for their inaction and lack of leadership, without working with us to develop an equitable path forward that doesn’t place any further burden on the backs of Joliet’s working families.

I’m running for Joliet City Council because the Mayor and his friends are too comfortable making decisions that harm our families, while locking us out of the room where the decisions are made. From our crumbling infrastructure, to our disappearing water, and massive giveaways to Northpoint via “recapture agreements and enterprise zones, we deserve a Joliet that works for us, not just major corporations.

I call on Mayor O’Dekirk and the Joliet City Council to delay the January 28th vote on the future of Joliet’s water, until they’ve completed a participatory planning process that meaningfully engages everyone in Joliet. Together, we can chart a path forward that provides everyone in Joliet safe, clean, affordable drinking water. Anything less is unacceptable.
