Rep. Marie Newman Endorses Cesar Guerrero for Joliet
February 25, 2021, 12pm Joliet- Representative Marie Newman today endorsed Joliet City Council at-large candidate, Cesar Guerrero, in his bid to become Joliet’s only Latinx city councilor. The endorsement comes on the first day of early voting in Will County which the Guerrero campaign kicked off with a successful march to the polls event, drawing about 50 people to the Will County Clerk's office, many of them first time voters. “Representative Newman is a champion for working people who understands that a bright future for towns like Joliet depends on healthcare for all and a green new deal,” said Guerrero. “This race is about winning equitable representation for Joliet’s Latinx population and working together with everyone in Joliet to secure a bright, sustainable future for our city. I am honored to have Representative Newman’s support in this race and I look forward to working with her to advance infrastructure, healthcare, and sustainability issues in our city.”

This endorsement is the latest promising sign for the young candidate who had a strong start to the race with a robust field operation that secured over seven times the number of required ballot petitions, the most of any of the 12 candidates in the race. His endorsement by the congresswoman is his latest and highest profile endorsement to date as the April 6th election nears. Progressive groups have rallied to his candidacy with endorsements by the Illinois Nurses Association, Will County Progressives, Our Revolution, and the Warehouse Workers Organizing Committee.
Cesar Guerrero leads the march to the polls with a sign signalling his continued solidarity with all those who fight for racial justice, in Joliet and everywhere.
