Sign The Petition: Affordable Water NOW!

Sign our petition and tell the Joliet City Council to act immediately to put a cap on the cost of water and a ban on water utility shut offs to guarantee universal access to safe drinking water for all Joliet families. We demand this because water is a human right, and no family in the richest nation on Earth should have to struggle to pay their water bill.

Joliet Mayor O’Dekirk and the Joliet City Council recently voted to build a water pipeline to Chicago before our aquifer runs dry in 2030. That pipeline is going to be financed by a TRIPLING of Joliet water prices with no guarantees the price won’t climb even higher.

We are facing this crisis because of decades of inaction by the Joliet City Council. Now, that same City Council is telling the working families of Joliet not to worry about the unaffordability of water - because the price could go down again in 35 years or so.

Instead of raising prices on working families, we call for the financing of the pipeline to be paid for by implementing a tiered price on water based on consumption. That way, working families can be guaranteed an affordable rate while major consumers, such as large manufacturers or the proposed Northpoint development, pay their fair share for access to our most precious resource.

The working families of Joliet can’t afford to wait another few decades for our City Council to fix the water affordability crisis they just created. Please sign our petition now and help guarantee access to safe, affordable drinking water for our families.
